Local Restaurants & Places to Eat around Newcastle Upon Tyne

Marco Polo

33 Dean St, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 1PQ, UK – 0191 232 5533

Excellent tasting food. Good size portions and friendly staff. A happy customer wanting nothing more 👍

We all love this place and go there whenever we're in Newcastle. But the last couple of times it's been horrendously noisy due to large celebratory parties, which makes a quiet family dinner very difficult. Perhaps I'm too old for rowdiness!

Ury Restaurant

27 Queen St, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 3UG, UK – 0191 232 7799

Great restaurant. Quite happy to have us with young children too. Uthapam was excellent. Fish curry, outstanding. Authentic South Indian cookery. I plan to come again!

EXCELLENT VEGAN INDIAN RESTAURANT! The best Indian restaurant in Newcastle Food fantastic. Staff super attentive . Far superior to Vujon next door

Blackfriars Restaurant

Friars St, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 4XN, UK – 0191 261 5945

Diverse menu. Excellent preparation. Quality rather than quantity, but at a reasonable price. The setting is a former Dominican refectory in a friary. I had the beef wellington. Crisp and flaky with a nice rich sticky sauce. It come with a small piece of flank. The flank was 2-3 ounces and the wellington 2 inches long. Mashed peas were nicely seasoned. Fascinating classes are offered, and may be the real bargain here, but they fill a month in advance.

We visited Blackfriars with a friend who was in town. The restaurant is a beautiful old building with lots of charm, with a dining area, a great hall (for functions) and a bar in a separate building across the way. Our meals were lovely, as was the service. The staff were extremely friendly and courteous. The ambience of the restaurant area is relaxed and laid back. It's just a beautiful place to dine! Downsides were we had to wait a little longer than expected for our meal (the lovely waiter brought us across some drinks to soften the delay) and my vegetarian friend was limited in her choice, as despite being advertised as vegetarian-friendly, there were only two veggie meals on the menu. The cost for the main meal for three, a nice bottle of wine, plus three desserts, was £140. Definitely not a budget option, but the food was lovely and service great. Diners before 7 pm can choose from a separate set menu which we didn't try, yet seemed good value.
